In April, the band will continue its tradition of honoring one of the best-known composers for band by featuring the music of American composer Leroy Anderson, remembered as the genius who brought us the holiday favorite “Sleigh Ride,” but additionally a prolific composer of music, both serious and silly, that has become part of the voice of our country. We will perform Anderson’s “Irish Suite,” written for Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops as part of the annual St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in Boston, and an assortment of pieces featuring members of the HTxCB, such as “The Penny-Whistle Song” (featuring the flutes), “Clarinet Candy” (featuring the clarinets), and “Bugler’s Holiday” (featuring the trumpets). The concert will take place in the auditorium of Texas A&M University-San Antonio at 3:00 on Sunday, April 23.
